Eyes on the Street: Smart Parking Boots on L.A. Streets

On a bike ride today, I spotted two of LADOT's new high-tech smart boots on Koreatown streets. As SBLA reported earlier, LADOT uses these new boots on cars with five or more unpaid violations. The new high-tech boot is more customer-friendly, allowing for less towing and impounding, and quicker online/phone payment to get the boot released.

Not related to the boot, but in other parking news, starting next week LADOT will begin enforcing the city's clarified prohibition against parkway parking. Note that parkways are that area between the sidewalk and the street (see full city description here). Below is LADOT's full press statement (dated tomorrow, released today).

Press Release: Parking on ‘Parkways’ ProhibitedL.A.M.C. 80.53 to be enforced on Los Angeles streets

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 9, 2017)–On August 14, 2017, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation will begin to enforce L.A.M.C. 80.53 Parkway Violation in Los Angeles. The Ordinance prohibits the stopping, standing, or parking of a vehicle in the Parkway.

A parkway is the area of the public right-of-way not intended for vehicular use between the sidewalk and the curb. A parkway can also be located where no curb exists between the sidewalk and the public street, which the City has reserved for landscaping and utilities. No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle within the area of a Parkway. For parkway violators, penalties include issued citations.

LADOT is continuing to help make our streets safer for all Angelenos.
