Eyes on the Street S.F.: Preview of McLaren Park Protected Bike Lane

A look at the almost-finished protected bike lanes in McLaren Park. Photo: Streetsblog

Last weekend there was supposed to be a ribbon-cutting and festival to mark the opening of the new protected bike lanes in McLaren Park. But then the heavy storms came and delayed the opening and, from the looks of it, the last bit of lane striping also got put on hold. That said, Streetsblog wasn't going to let a little rain get in the way.

Here are some pictures of the newest bicycle infrastructure in San Francisco, in the city's second-largest park. While the paths are very nice, Streetsblog was a little disappointed that the protection drops away completely while still inside the park, long before spilling out to Persia Avenue in the Excelsior. Let's hope some future projects will provide protection all the way to and into the adjoining neighborhoods. That said, it was quite pleasant to tootle around on the paths without the stress of worrying about getting swiped by an inattentive motorist. The new opening date is set for a week from tomorrow, Saturday, Feb.4. Hope to see you there.

Apologies for the cell phone camera, but that's the skyline from the McLaren Park path. SF's second-largest park has some really fantastic views. Photo: Streetsblog
