Bike-Share Can Get State Funding to Reach Low-Income Communities
At its meeting a few weeks ago, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) agreed to include bike-share in its Car Sharing and Mobility Options pilot program. That means that areas that are figuring out how to get bike-share into low income areas now have a new funding option.

Caltrans Bicycling/Walking Survey Closing Soon, Draft CA Plan This Fall
As part of the process to develop the first-ever statewide bike and pedestrian plan, Caltrans has been collecting general information from people about their current walking and bicycling experience. The survey, available here, closes on June 30.

#DamienTalksSGV 11 – Metro, Cacciotti and 626 Golden Streets
This week, #DamienTalks with Laura Cornejo, the sustainability officer for Metro and the lead for Metro's Open Streets events program. Metro has been funding numerous Open Streets events throughout L.A. County. Metro's initial open streets funding cycle finishes up this weekend with 626 - an amazing 18-mile long multi-jurisdictional car-free party.

City of Sacramento Gets a New Active Transportation Planner
After two national searches, Sacramento recently hired Jennifer Donlon Wyant, formerly of Alta Planning, as its Active Transportation Program Specialist within the Department of Public Works. She is one of only two transportation planners in the department.

A Different Ride of Silence: Rich City RIDES
Last Thursday, May 18, was the day of the International Ride of Silence. In many cities—26 Californian cities, according to the California Bicycle Coalition—bike riders gathered to commemorate bicyclists and pedestrians who have died in traffic crashes. San Francisco was one such city. So was Richmond. But that city's Ride of Silence was about a lot more than traffic violence.

Downtown LA to Get Bike-Share on July 7
Downtown L.A. will get a little more bike-friendly with the launch of Metro bike-share, just announced for Thursday, July 7, 2016. Metro bike-share will include 1000+ bikes at 65 docking stations. The system is expected to expand to Pasadena in 2017, and other areas in future years.

Caltrans State Bike and Ped Plan Listens in Los Angeles
Caltrans is hosting a series of meetings around the state to get input on the California State Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan (CSBPP). The plan kicked off last year and is expected to be completed and approved by Caltrans management in early 2017.
