Santa Ana Partners With City’s Kids to Bring a Safer Route to School
Unsafe routes and dangerous intersections. These are the two largest barriers for parents when deciding whether or not to allow their kids to ride their bikes or walk to school. But a group of students in Santa Ana are not willing to let these barriers stand and, as a result, one unsafe route to school will soon be getting a new protected bike lane.

Safe Routes in Schools: Oceano Elementary’s Bike Friendly Playground Makeover
An elementary school in Oceano, California, just got the state's first permanent bicycle track—inside a schoolyard. Inspired by an enthusiastic teacher, organized by a supportive principal, and designed by the regional Safe Routes to School coordinator, the playground markings give kids a safe place to practice riding bikes while learning the rules of the road.

CTC Staff Recommends Active Transportation Program Winners
The California Transportation Commission released its staff recommendations for projects to be funded by the Active Transportation Program. The list is not final; it should be formally adopted by the CTC at its October meeting.
